Azeez Abdullah Barzinjy
Professor
Prof. Azeez A. Barzinjy was born in Erbil, Iraq. He received his B.Sc. in Physics (1998) and his first M.Sc. in Superconductivity (2004) from Salahaddin University–Erbil. In 2009, he obtained a second M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics from Old Dominion University, USA. He subsequently earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the Materials Science Centre, University of Leicester, UK, in 2014. Prof. Barzinjy is currently a Full Professor at Soran University, Iraq. He has made significant contributions to both national and international scientific communities, participating in numerous conferences and frequently serving as an invited and keynote speaker. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, with his work receiving approximately 3,800 citations and achieving an h-index of 33. His primary research interests focus on the green synthesis of nanoparticles using plant extracts and novel ionic liquid media. He investigates their multidisciplinary applications, including wastewater treatment, enhancement of solar cell performance, improvement of construction materials, nano-dentistry, antibacterial and antimicrobial therapies, anticancer applications, thin-film fabrication, sensor development, and other advanced nanotechnology-driven fields. Prof. Barzinjy is actively involved in postgraduate education and currently supervises several M.Sc. and Ph.D. candidates across multiple universities. In recognition of his scientific impact, he was listed by Stanford University among the world’s top 2% of scientists in Materials Science in 2023, 2024, and 2025. He is a professional member of several international scientific organizations, including the American Physical Society, the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Leicester Ionic Liquids Group, the International Nanotechnology Association, and the International Association for Engineering and Technology.
