Biography:

Dr. Farkhanda Afzal is an educator, researcher, and founder of STEMWomenPK, dedicated to advancing mathematical sciences, STEM education, robotics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies in Pakistan. She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Beihang University and has served as a faculty member at several leading institutions.
Her research expertise lies in Pure and Applied Mathematics, with particular interests in mathematical modeling, computational methods, nanofluids, scientific computing, data-driven analysis, and interdisciplinary applications of mathematics to real-world scientific and engineering challenges. Her work promotes the integration of quantitative reasoning, statistical methodologies, and analytical approaches in both scientific inquiry and educational research. She is especially interested in exploring the intersections of mathematical sciences with emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, advanced materials, cognitive intelligence, and educational innovation.
Dr. Afzal's research includes the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of complex transport phenomena, nanofluids, thermal systems, and advanced materials. Her work contributes to understanding nanoscale processes through computational approaches, supporting developments in nanoscience, nanotechnology, and sustainable engineering applications. She advocates the use of mathematical and computational tools to bridge fundamental scientific research with technological innovation and societal needs.
Dr. Afzal has been instrumental in strengthening research-driven STEM education and fostering international collaborations. She led the establishment of an Educational Robotics Laboratory at the National University of Sciences and Technology under the British Council’s Gender Equality Partnerships Programme, in collaboration with the Eureka Robotics Centre, Wales, UK. This initiative enhanced research capacity, technological innovation, and inclusive participation in STEM disciplines.
In recognition of her contributions to international research collaboration and gender equality in STEM, Dr. Afzal received the inaugural Going Global Partnership Award from the British Council for the flagship project PIE (Partnership in Equality): UK–Pakistan Women in Robotics and AI. The project established a collaborative network among eight higher education institutions and promoted research, innovation, and capacity building in robotics, artificial intelligence, and STEM education.
Through her academic, research, and outreach activities, Dr. Afzal continues to promote innovative educational frameworks that enhance analytical thinking, scientific literacy, and research-based learning while encouraging interdisciplinary approaches that connect mathematics with contemporary scientific and technological challenges. Her work reflects a commitment to advancing knowledge at the interface of mathematics, nanoscience, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies for the benefit of society.
