Oncology Nursing & Palliative Care

This session explores the specialized and compassionate role of oncology and palliative care nursing in supporting patients and families throughout the cancer journey. As cancer care becomes increasingly complex, nurses play a vital part in early detection, treatment coordination, symptom management, psychosocial support, and end-of-life care. Key topics include cancer prevention and screening, chemotherapy and immunotherapy management, radiation care principles, pain and symptom control, holistic and integrative care approaches, and strategies to improve quality of life for patients living with cancer. The session will also address communication skills for difficult conversations, ethical considerations, family counseling, and interdisciplinary collaboration in both oncology and palliative care settings. Participants will gain insights into evidence-based practices that enhance patient comfort, reduce treatment-related complications, and support emotional and spiritual needs. Case studies will highlight how oncology and palliative care nurses advocate for patient dignity, guide complex decision-making, and deliver compassionate, person-centered care throughout all stages of illness.
